It recently came on the market since Mr. Shulman's passing last Summer. It was a bit spooky with the feeling that someone had just moved out. Plenty of furniture, house plants and other artifacts remain.<br /><br />It's an impressive, simple house designed by Raphael Soriano in 1950. If I had $2.4 million, I would buy it in a heartbeat! I don't think Julius Shulman ever cooked as the original kitchen appeared like new. The crosshatch Formica is exactly like what I have in my master bath. The attached studio is a work space all freelancers dream of. This house has been well cared for.<br /><br />I was truly amazing, though, is the mature landscape designed by Garrett Eckbo. TucsonModern over on the Phoenix Modern forum found a small group of five Cliff Mays at 20th &amp; Van Buren. Two look pretty good and three appear to have additions. What makes these unique is the use of brick on the some of the exterior and a shake roof. Today I gave a presentation on Mid-Century Modernism at the <a href="http://www.eugenehomeshow.com/welcome.html">30th Annual Lane County Home & Garden Show</a>. Having not delivered this presentation before, I wasn't sure what to expect. My 30 minute presentation, aided with some choice slides of Eichler, Cliff Mays, Alexanders, and Neutra designs, took 45 minutes according to my wife. <br /><br />My 2 o'clock show was sandwiched in between two shows from '50 Pam from Vermont, who runs the <a href="http://retrorenovation.com">retrorenovation.com</a> blog. Her slideshow showwcased '40s-'50s-'60s interiors of all styles of mid-century homes. It was nice meeting her.<br /><br />The room was full of friends and strangers, included several people from my neighborhood I had not met yet. I was nice meeting the crew at Oak Street Vintage too. The box of Atomic Ranch magazines were gobbled-up quickly. Hopefully that will translate into some subscriptions for them (:<br /><br />I didn't hear any boos or complaints, so it must have went OK. Would I do it again? I don't know. Maybe.
